our story
Our long strange trip traveling the golden road began in 1979. For over forty years running, our inspiration will not fade away. The music, the smiles, and the kindness of friends old and new, that we always meet on the road. Our mantras are “All Roads Lead to Terrapin” and “half the fun is getting there”. With this “inspiration that moved us brightly”, All Roads Lead to Terrapin Place Pizza was born.
The other half of the fun began in 2015 with the sometimes painstaking, sometimes exhilarating, restoration of Terrapin Place. Constructed in the 1880’s, this historic landmark at the crossroads of Jerseyville, Illinois has now been faithfully restored to its original turn of the century Romanesque Revival grandeur.
TEAM TERRAPIN
Team Terrapin is committed to providing kind and friendly service. We want you to experience our premium wood fired pizza, mouthwatering cocktails and scrumptious desserts. Rest assured that each time you visit us it will be a memorable occasion. If we succeed, there will be nothing left to do - but Smile, Smile, Smile and, to come see us again, because All Roads Lead to Terrapin.
about terrapin place
Terrapin Room
Enjoy the ambiance of the elegant Terrapin Room, first a bank in the 1880’s and then a corner drug store for nearly a century. Restoration has been meticulously completed to reveal the original brick walls, hardwood floors and beautiful fleur-de-lis ceiling.
Terrapin Social Club
Travel the passage from the Terrapin Room to the Terrapin Social Club, the place to meet your friends and celebrate the day. 104 Pearl Street was constructed in the 1880’s as a grocery store. The original 10-foot sign was discovered during the renovation and is on display.
The Back Porch
From the Terrapin Social Club step out under the sun or stars onto The Back Porch. Sit back and enjoy the outdoor environment. Let the fire bar entertain you, try out the swing, or enjoy the light show and the beautiful original stained-glass window rescued from the London Café that stood on the very same spot over 75 years ago.
Minglewood Room
Upstairs from the Terrapin Social Club is the Minglewood Room with a private outdoor balcony. This is where we host and cater business meetings, community organizations and private parties.
